At the Fort Canoe Kayak Club we offer a variety of fun sprint canoe & kayak programs to get your kid(s) active! All of our sprint canoe & kayak programs are designed around the Canadian Sport for life Long-Term-Athlete-Development-Model and more specifically are in line with the CanoeKayakCanada LTAD Model.

We strive to create programs for children of all ages and experience that will guide them though these stages by acquiring a foundation to be active for life, learning fundamental paddling skills and progressively building on these as children go through our programs!

New paddlers have three options to register, you can register in our Development program below or check out our summer programs here!

The Competitive Sprint Program

Fort Canoe Kayak Club offers year-round training on the water for all ages.  FCKC provides athletes with stable boats, with the opportunity to advance to more challenging boats as their skill develops.

Athletes are grouped according to age and ability, training at the club on water and in the gym. With the guidance of Head Coach Connor Fehr, athletes will learn technical skills of paddling in a fun-filled,  encouraging environment.

During our year-round training schedule, our coaches mix it up with different activities to keep athletes moving, engaged and having fun. In addition to dry-land training in the gym in the off season, we hold swim sessions, ski outings, skating, and even circus school lessons.

Sprint Canoe Kayak is an Olympic sport and can be excellent lifelong activity! The spring and summer regatta season is a highlight of the year. Our club participates in local races, and out of town regattas in Nanaimo, Kamloops, Seattle and others.

High performance athletes compete to qualify to attend the Canoe Kayak National Championships which will be held in Regina in August 2019. FCKC sent 7 athletes to the 2018 Nationals in Sherbrooke Quebec,

Participation in these races is optional, but not many paddlers want to miss out when their team is on the water. Club families and fans set up on the beach and cheer our paddlers enthusiastically.

The coaching staff is excited to build up our Sprint paddling team, so registration is open right now. Costs for the Sprint program are comparable to junior hockey, dance and other recreation for youth.  Depending on the level of the paddler (Development or High Performance) the monthly cost varies from low season (Oct to March) and high season (April to September). This sport is great value for money.
