LANDON MQUARRIE- COACH

Landon McQuarrie is another of the Senior Coaches at FCKC, mostly coaching Fundamentals programs; coaching new athletes both at practice and at Regattas. Landon started paddling after a Summer Camp program with FCKC, and has been paddling ever since. He is an accomplished paddler, with 3 nationals medals, competing at Nationals in 2019, 2021, and He also has 7 BC Games Medals from 2018 and was a part of Team BC from 2019 2022. His accomplishments and experience in the sport of Canoe Kayak make him a well-rounded Fundamentals coach for incoming athletes. Landon’s favourite part of the FCKC community is the teammates and coaches, and being part of both seeing and building the next generation of athletes coming through the club. Landon came back to competing in Canoe Kayak after taking 3 years off to study Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at SFU while competing in Rugby.
ABBY CHARLESWORTH- COACH

Abby Charlesworth is one of FCKC’s Senior Coaches and leads the year-round Fundamentals program, where she plays a key role in welcoming and developing new athletes from our recreational pathways. Abby began her canoe-kayak journey in 2017 after attending CanoeKids Summer Camp. Since then, she has competed at multiple Canoe Kayak Canada National Championships, earning numerous medals for both local clubs and FCKC. A long-standing member of Team BC, Abby has become a valued role model within the paddling community. She has represented the province at two Canada Summer Games and served as Head Coach for another region at the 2024 BC Summer Games, helping inspire the next generation of paddlers. Today, Abby continues to coach all Fundamentals programs with enthusiasm and a strong commitment to growing youth participation in the sport. Outside of paddling, she is studying at the Justice Institute to become a firefighter and is already a trained paramedic.
JACK EUVERMAN- COACH

Jack is one of Fort Canoe Kayak’s newest members. Since joining in 2024, he has contributed to many different programs over the past two years, from Summer Camps to coaching. Although he wasn’t a formal canoe-kayaker before joining FCKC, Jack has been involved in many other sports and recreation programs throughout his life, including hockey and strength-training. His background in sport has translated well into canoe-kayak, and he has fully embraced learning and engaging with such a unique sport. Jack’s favourite part of FCKC is the welcoming community that has been built. Everyone involved in the club is kind, supportive, and inclusive, creating opportunities for anyone to learn and enjoy the sport of canoe-kayak. Jack is currently in his third year at Simon Fraser University, studying Psychology with the intention of pursuing a career in counselling.
MAYA DRISNER- COACH AND ADMIN

Maya is Fort Canoe Kayak’s administrative assistant during the winter and school months, and has taken on roles from Coach to Programs Coordinator each spring and summer for the past four years. While not a canoe-kayaker herself, she’s a varsity rower with the University of the Fraser Valley and has competed at the Canadian University Rowing Championships in Elk Lake (2024) and Montreal (2025). Maya’s favourite part of FCKC is its wide range of programs, there’s something for everyone! When she’s not coaching or rowing, you’ll likely find her in the water swimming or reading. Maya is currently in her final years of University studying History and Global Development.
MATT SMITH- SENIOR COACH

Matt Smith has been at Fort Canoe Kayak since prior to the split from Fort Langley Canoe Club. He was a member of the Senior National Team 1986-1988. His accomplishments include Senior World Championship Team Montreal 1986 C1 10000m, Junior World Team 1987 A finalist in C1 500m, 1000m, C4 500. Matt has 20 Canadian National Championship Medals in all -including being C1 national champion at U16 and U18. Matt was a coach at both Rideau Canoe Club and Oakville Canoe Club. He has ELCC certification and brings other knowledge of human kinetics to coaching with his medical background. Matt is a full time vascular surgeon working in Fraser Health but spends as much time as possible coaching.
